One of the most recognizable restaurants on the Portland, Maine, waterfront didn't welcome any guests for the majority of this summer. But the next wave of visitors will be welcomed with open arms.

Earlier in the spring, Sapporo restaurant announced that they were departing their longtime space at 230 Commercial Street after decades of operating in Portland, Maine.

After Sapporo announced their departure, another Japanese restaurant announced it would be taking over the space.

Watami Opens Their Second Maine Location in Portland

According to Portland Food Map, Watami has officially opened their doors for business at 230 Commercial Street after some renovations and typical business hoops to jump through.

The Portland location of Watami features a similar menu to their original location in Brunswick. The restaurant specializes in sushi and sashimi but also offers ramen, hibachi meals, noodle dishes and more.

Watami plans to be open 7 days per week with extended hours on both Friday and Saturday.

Sapporo Has Found a Home in Falmouth, Maine

For those that pass through Portland and miss the familiar tastes of Sapporo, the restaurant officially opened their new location in Falmouth, Maine. back in April.

Sapporo is now located inside the newly-constructed Wyeth building, which houses upscale condos. The new restaurant is adjacent to the shopping center in Falmouth that includes Ocean State Job Lot as well as a Shaw's location.
