Watch Monkey Gently Pet a Chipmunk at Zoo in Mount Vernon, Maine
Spider monkey, Odette, is very sweet and the chipmunk doesn't seem freaked at all.
A visitor at the DEW Haven caught a special moment between Odette, a spider monkey, and a chipmunk. Odette has been at DEW Haven since 2018.
If you've ever seen a chipmunk, you know that you see them for about 3 seconds before they take off in a jittery nervous hurry. But for some reason, this little guy let a monkey pet it. It's so sweet!
DEW Haven | Maine Zoo & Rescue was founded by, Bob and Julie Miner, who built DEW Haven from the ground up starting as a farm in 1980, and transforming it into the zoo and rescue. DEW is now home to over 200 animals from all over the world. Bob and Julie live with the animals and dedicate their lives to them. They strive to educate the community with fun, educational, interactive tours, in hopes to help people understand animals' futures are everyone's responsibility.
DEW Haven has seen its fair share of controversy and fame. Mostly at the same time. Back in 2014, DEW was part of a reality show on Animal Planet called Yankee Jungle.
The show was canceled because of...well, that's where the debate begins. You can go down a rabbit hole looking at the allegations that the owners Bob and Julie adamantly deny.
DEW Haven has its supporters who have been going for generations and adore the zoo. There are others that claim to this day that the animals are not happy. I suppose to make that determination yourself, you should see it for yourself. They are open and you might just catch Odelle petting another chipmunk.
