Making a mark on lives isn't something you plan. It's something that just occurs. The fleeting moments that provide an unforgettable feelings between you and that person happen without you really knowing until you think about that person.

A local Lewiston man made a huge mark on so many lives. His name is Daniel L. Pelletier and he recently passed away of natural causes, in his sleep on December 30th, 2021.

Dan was a city work for almost 20 years. He put his blood sweat and tears into our city and I feel it's important to highlight those who don't ask for recognition but deserve it nonetheless.

Actions speak louder then words and Dan received the acknowledgment of the century. The road that led to his funeral was filled with fellow city workers, standing tall in solidarity on the side of the road with their big construction vehicles, mourning the loss of their good buddy. They removed their hats and placed them on their hearts. The video below shows how heartfelt and deeply moving this was.

Isn't that beautiful? We take so much for granted every day, I do, you do, we all do. Sometimes we just need to take a moment and be grateful for the days we are given to live.

According to his obituary, Dan worked for Maine Concrete and the City of Lewiston Public Works Department and retired in 2021.

He was said to have a warm personality and developed so many friendships, touching the lives of many Mainers. He was known for being the best hugger.

He was an extremely heart-warming person and what happened at his funeral was nothing short of amazing.

His niece Jamie Caouette, Leader of The Store Next Store, Homeless Youth Center, was able to tell me that no one planned this, he was just that liked and respected. The loss is deep but they will never forget the moments they experienced with Uncle Dan.

I will leave you with what Dan always use to say,

"We’re never getting out of this world alive”.

-Daniel Pelletier
