WCYY Celebrates 30 Years on July 28, 2025
If you've been a fan of WCYY for a long time, it might be a little hard to believe that the station has been around for almost 3 decades.
What came together as an idea and then brought to the Maine airwaves in about 72 hours has transformed into one of the longest-running alternative-rock radio stations in America.
It's a testament to the power of the music and the continued enthusiasm of WCYY's fans and longtime advertisers.
On Monday, July 28, we'll once again revisit day one of the WCYY playlist. This time around, we've spent quite a bit of time working on total accuracy and believe we have the exactly playlist from July 28, 1995 nailed down song by song in the order they were played.
From a personal standpoint, WCYY has been an incredibly large part of my life since I was a teenager. I discovered the station while spending a summer in Old Orchard Beach, Maine at Hid'n Pines Campground. I was instantly hooked.
I brought my love of the station back to my hometown of Lewiston and shared it with friends. Before I knew it, we were off to Portland regularly to check out both local and national concerts. I've never looked back.
We're also hopeful that listeners will share their memories of the great times they've had involving the station. From parties, to concerts to the little moments on the air that have remained engrained in your mind.
The day one playlist flashback will begin at 6am on Monday with "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from Nirvana and continue until 6pm that evening.
Thank you for supporting the station for all these years. There have been many people over 3 decades that have given so much of their time and effort to make a small station feel much bigger than it is.
