Weekly Drive-in Movie Experience is Coming to Owls Head
Business for Maine's drive-in movie theaters has been booming this season due to the pandemic. Drive-in movies offer an already built-in social distancing system as you watch a movie from the comfort and safety of your own vehicle.
Now drive-in experiences are popping up to fill the entertainment need in different areas.
Knox County does not have a drive-in nearby. That is, until now.
The historic Strand Theatre in Rockland will be bringing weekly movies to the Owls Head Transportation Museum beginning on July 9th.
Strand Theatre and Owls Head Transportation Museum have pretty much everything figured out except for the movies. Those will be announced soon so keep up to date on Facebook or their website.
Movies will be going on Thursday through Saturday nights at 8:30 pm through Saturday, August 1st. Tickets will be $20 per car and will be available online or by phone starting at 2 pm on the day of the show. There will be no concessions to purchase but each car will receive a bag of popcorn.
Staff will be required to wear masks and guests may not watch the movie from outside their vehicle. Staff will assign you a parking spot based on vehicle size.
This is a wonderful opportunity for those in Knox County as well as nearby towns that may not be able to travel to Westbrook, Skowhegan, or Bangor. And $20 a car for a family is incredibly affordable, especially when you can bring your own snacks!
