What Is The “Grossest” Food That People From Maine Love To Devour?
A nationwide survey shows some truly unappetizing dishes across the country...but are you one of the Mainers that loves our "grossest" dish?
The next time you're passing through Indiana, be sure to stop by a local diner and pick up a delicious BRAIN sandwich. Seriously. Or maybe on your road trip through Nebraska, you can fill your tummy with a nice hot beef sundae. No, we're not making that up. Those are just a couple of the oddities that made Thrillist's latest list, the "grossest" foods that are popular in each state across the country.
So what about the great state of Maine? You could probably guess it had something to do with lobster. Thrillist claims that tomalley, that green goop inside of a lobster is our #1 grossest delicacy. French-canadians may argue for creton, but facts are facts.
So what is tomalley? Brace yourself because it's a lobster's pancreas and liver. Lobster conneseurs swear by the taste, claiming there's nothing more delicious in a lobster than the tomalley. Others listen to science, which claim eating tomalley is a roll of the dice, as it often harbors pollutants that could be detrimental to your health.
So now that you know, are you one of the people from Maine that truly enjoy tomalley?! Don't forget to check out the rest of Thrillist's list for some truly horrendous menu offerings all across the country. (really New Hampshire, GRAPE-NUTS ICE CREAM?!)
