Mainers are reportedly taking the new law to heart, as law enforcement credits media coverage with the unexpectedly low number of citations.

Last week, Maine joined a number of other states in adopting a hands free law for motorists, and law enforcement stated it would be a hard start without a grace period. Many took to social media wondering how the new restrictions are playing out, and the posts didn't garner a ton comments. BECAUSE APPARENTLY EVERYONE IS FOLLOWING THE LAW.

Well, almost everyone.

According to WGME News 13, during the first week, only one person has been ticketed in Maine's southern most county. Other areas of the state have issued more. York County Sheriff William King told WGME "Since the new law came into effect, less than a week, we've only issued one warning and one citation, and the citation was just yesterday.  I think people are complying with it. They're going to get used to not making a call."

King reminds drivers to keep their eyes on the road, and hands on the wheel.
