According to the Portland Press Herald, the bill would be optional for bars and would only allow participating bars to stay open until 2 a.m. during peak tourist season. The Governor suggests that people come from other states where bars typically stay open until 2-4 a.m. and would like give people something similar here in Maine. Various town leaders and representatives don't sound overly opposed to the idea, they just want to be assured that later closing times won't lead to increased violence, noise complaints and safety concerns for staff working at establishments. So what do you think? Is Maine ready for a summertime filled with bars closing at 2 a.m.?
