From finding CYY when working at a campground in OOB in 96, to spending almost 10 years as your least favorite DJ, it's been fun.

One of the most common questions I get when I'm around town is, "how did you become a CYY DJ?". Let's start from the beginning. I used to spend my summers working for Hid'n Pines Campground in Old Orchard Beach. My job was cleaning campsites/bathrooms and that led to me listening to my Sony Walkman A LOT. After getting sick of my various mix tapes, i stumbled across this station called WCYY.

Possum Kingdom was the first song that I remember hearing on CYY. I thought it was the coolest thing because I'd only seen the video a handful of times late at night on MTV. From that point forward, I listened to CYY for hours per day, and felt like I got to know the DJ's at the time. I did a lot of listening earlier in the day, so Wildman Zack and The Facemelter became trusted voices in my head. I discovered so much music in the summer of 1996, and I'm very thankful.

Fast forward almost 10 years later to the University of Southern Maine Portland campus when a poor college student is returning books for some money. I happened to pass by WCYY broadcasting live and that is when I first met Rob. We conversed back and forth for a little bit about the history of CYY and he could tell that I was a big fan. Rob also knew my father had been a DJ on our sister station WBLM during the 80's, so he asked if I was interested in a possible weekend shift at CYY, I was.

My first air shift was in October of 2005 and if you didn't hear it, don't worry, not many people did. I did 2am-5am on a Saturday night and thought i was king of the world. I still can't believe that almost 10 years later I'm still here and I've gone from doing weekend overnight shifts to hosting the CYY morning show. What a ride.

One thing I have discovered in my time here at CYY is that our friends that listen all have stories. There's a song, there's a moment, a show...something that made you tune in CYY and stick around for all these years. Today, on our 20th birthday, we want to hear those stories. Share them and be proud of them. When almost 10,000 screamed "I Am CYY" at a sold out Disturbed show years ago, that wasn't by accident. Thank for you growing "older" with us.
