Pizza Plus in Scarborough, Maine, Has Officially Closed

For those that drive down Payne Road in Scarborough towards the Maine Mall, it's one of the most recognizable shops along the strip, standing out amongst big box stores and sprawling hotels.

That would be Pizza Plus, a modest but longstanding pizza and sub shop located in the Maine Mall area. As so many buildings and businesses have built up around it, the small shop had stayed tried and true. But as they say, all good things must come to an end.

In early October, people began to notice a shift at Pizza Plus. Their digital sign stopped featuring their daily and weekly specials. The constant traffic in their parking lot seemed to be nonexistent. People on social media wondered if the business was on vacation.

Instead, the pizza stalwart decided to make a business decision. After many years in operation, Pizza Plus decided to close and make way for a new restaurant to take over the space. For some in the Scarborough and Old Orchard Beach area, they're already familiar with it.

Amore on the Marsh, a restaurant that was located in the Scarborough Flats, closed earlier in 2023. Many fans of the restaurant were saddened, having fallen in love with the homemade Italian dishes. But the owners of the restaurant said it may be a short goodbye, and as it turns out, it was.

Amore on the Marsh will open as Fresco Del Forno in the building that formerly housed Pizza Plus. They'll be serving up pizza, subs, wraps, and traditional homemade parmesan dinners. A 'coming soon' sign has already popped up, and the business expects to be open shortly.
