Planning on Watching the Solar Eclipse in Maine and New Hampshire? Beware of This Scam

If you're lucky enough to live in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, or right here in Maine, you may be lucky enough to catch the upcoming solar eclipse, which will arrive on April 8th. It's important to know that you will only get to see it in certain sections of these states.

The idea of the solar eclipse is fascinating. Think about it, the Moon passing between the Earth and the Sun, obscuring all or part of the Sun's light and essentially turning daytime into nighttime.

You're probably aware that looking directly at the eclipse as its happening can damage your eyes; probably not a risk that you want to take. Protective eye gear is always highly recommended.

That said, there are always scammers trying to make a few bucks at your expense. One of the latest scams wreaking havoc is fake protective eye gear.

According to a recent Verify report from News Center Maine, you will want to make sure the eye gear includes the manufacturers name and address and that they are ISO certified, which is essentially a certification that they meet international safety standards. They also recommend you buy from reputable retailers and steer clear of third party outlets like eBay and Amazon Marketplace.
