Belfast Woman Claims Her Son Was Discriminated Against For Wearing Donald Trump Mask
A woman from Belfast took to Facebook on Sunday evening to share an experience at Hannaford that left her unhappy. According to the woman, her son, a 12-year-old, is a huge fan of Donald Trump and enjoys wearing a custom Donald Trump mask around their house. On this particular day, he decided to wear that Trump mask, along with a New England Patriots shirt, to go grocery shopping before the Super Bowl.
However, after a brief time in the grocery store, a Hannaford employee requested that the 12-year-old remove his mask because it was making other customers uncomfortable. The woman found the request to be disrespectful, to the President and in her words. "the constitution" as she felt her son's freedom of speech was being infringed upon. She also referenced that people have no qualms during Halloween when masks are abundant. After a conversation with store employees, they left the store and she promised they will not be back.
Unfortunately for the woman, the comments left on her Facebook page have been far less than supportive. Most have questioned why anyone would wear a full face-covering mask into a store. Some asked if she would allow her son to wear that same mask when entering a bank? Others stated that the constitution and freedom of speech do not protect someone from being ejected from a store for completely covering their face in a place of business.
Hannaford maintains this wasn't a political statement but instead simply a safety issue. Do you agree? Should anyone ever wear full masks instead stores, banks etc? Let us know your thoughts on our Facebook page.
