Whether it's cutting people off in traffic, not using their turn signals, or just careless driving, there has been a long time stereotype with New Englanders that Massachusetts drivers are the worst.

For years, Massachusetts has been the butt of jokes when it comes to driving. It's almost as if Massachusetts drivers were handed a license along with a side of road rage. To be fair, we probably shouldn't take road range into consideration when determining bad drivers.

Well, the tides have turned, and the Bay State just flipped the script on that stereotype. According to a recent study by Forbes, Massachusetts actually has the best drivers in the US. They used data from fatal car accidents, then dove in further using the data of drunk drivers involved in fatal car accidents. Massachusetts came in with 7.14 fatal car accidents per 100,000 drivers, and a very small 2.39 that involved drunk drivers.

Now, let's not get ahead of ourselves. This data does not say that every driver from Massachusetts is a shining example of road etiquette. We've all encountered our fair share of aggressive lane changers and questionable parallel parkers. But hey, who hasn't?

What this newfound title tells us is that maybe, just maybe, there's more to Massachusetts drivers than the stereotype has shown. Maybe behind that seemingly aggressive exterior lies a heart of gold (or at least a heart that knows how to use a turn signal).

So how did Massachusetts pull off this title? Did they sprinkle some magic road salt on the highways, or did they all collectively decide to channel their inner Mr. Rogers and be a little kinder to their fellow drivers? We may never know the secret sauce, but one thing's for sure: they're owning it.

What state is home to the worst drivers? Well that less than desirable title goes to New Mexico. You can check out the entire Forbes list here.
