Boston’s Franklin Park Zoo Shows Off 6-Foot-Tall ‘Baby’ Giraffe
With all due respect to Boston Celtics champion Glen Davis, this is a Big Baby.
The Franklin Park Zoo in Boston just welcomed a one-month-old giraffe that stands at six feet tall and weighs 184 pounds. I never thought I’d see the day when a one-month-old was ready to be a Toys ‘R’ Us spokesman, but here we are.
The zoo will also hold a silent auction where the winner will choose the giraffe’s name, according to The Boston Globe. The Masai giraffe is receiving world-class treatment at the zoo, as the species population has dwindled by 40 percent over the past three decades.
Said the zoo in a statement:
“Standing tall and majestic, the Masai giraffe is one of Africa’s most iconic and beloved animals. Known for their distinctively patterned coats and towering stature, these gentle giants hold a special place in the hearts of animal lovers around the world.”
If you’ve got some cash (or Geoffrey Bucks) to throw around, you can put in a bid for the right to name Boston’s biggest baby through August 27.
To add perspective to just how large the six-foot giraffe is, here are some legendary Boston athletes who were not as tall as this baby:
