CYY 25-That Time Green Day Came In and Destroyed the Radio Station

It's Green Day Day for CYY 25! The band did visit the station one time, back in 1998. We came up with the idea of the Green Day Game Show. We would pit the band against listeners in a kooky game show format. Sounds fun, right? Well, we were about 5 minutes into the game when a Cheese Doodle war started and it was every man, woman, and child for themselves. People turned over chairs, hid under desks. Tre Cool surveyed his prey for Cheese Doodle domination on our table. If you are ever in that part of the station, you can still smell the cheesy goodness to this day.

It was the Nimrod tour. Reprise Records Rep at the time, and good friend of CYY, Andrew Govatsos, was there and he had brought a stack of Nimrod stickers with him. The band took most of them and slapped them on the walls all through the station and the building here at One City Center. The bank downstairs was not amused.

That night the band played at the Central Maine Civic Center - 5/12/98
