The Intersection of Payne Road and Cummings Road in Scarborough, Maine, is Dangerous

For those visiting Target or the nearby Maine Mall, chances are good that you've come across the intersection of Payne and Cummings Road in Scarborough. The busy stretch features two lanes in both directions with additional turning lanes at the intersection.

The danger in this many lanes rears its head at pretty much every hour of the day. Drivers turning from Cummings Road onto Payne struggle with the dual left turning lanes. Near collisions can be witnessed repeatedly.

Another major issue is drivers turning left from Payne Road onto Cummings. Where the traffic signal is situated can be difficult to see for drivers who are trying to make a proper left turn. That can leave vehicles hovering in the center of the intersection as others speed to make it through a yellow light.

Increased Pedestrian Traffic Make the Payne and Cummings Intersection a Danger

One of the oddities of the intersection of Payne and Cummings Road in Scarborough is the complete lack of a sidewalk for pedestrians. Recently, there have been some very close calls involving vehicles and people.
