I love Maine blueberries. Every since I was knee-high to a grasshopper back in the early 1970s, I have enjoyed eating these tiny sweet fruits. My earliest memory of them is picking from the little bushes that grew on the granite alongside the moss outside our family cottage on Dogfish Head in Southport.

You see, here in Maine our blueberries aren't as fat as the ones from out of state. Those big berries from away just don't have the same full-flavor as a the smaller ones we grew up eating.

Even though I have had a long and loving association with Maine blueberries, I had no idea that blueberry fields turn a brilliant red when fall arrives.

That wasn't revealed to me until I came across these stunning photos taken by local artist Paul Breeden of Sullivan, Maine. He posted them over the weekend on his Facebook page.

The pictures really caught my eye and I just had to share them. This is a terrific reminder that we are blessed to live in a state with such incredible natural beauty.

Thank you to Paul for capturing this magnificent autumnal landscape. We love it. And if there is any question as to whether or not these pics are photoshopped, see the artist's responses below.
