Hometown Hero July 2020: NH Veteran and Deputy Fire Chief Has Committed His Life to Helping Others

For some people, their jobs are more than just vocations.

Our veterans and first responders go above and beyond to keep us safe, and we want to honor them.

The Hometown Hero for July 2020 is Dennis Dube Jr.

He was nominated by his daughter, Riley, who she says has committed most of his life to helping others.

Dennis is a veteran as well as having been a firefighter for almost 25 years with the city of Rochester, New Hampshire.

Born in Milton NH, Dennis moved to Dover in 2007 to raise his 3 children, Avery, 7, Lily, 17, and Riley, 19, with his wife of 20 years, Kim Dube. Instead of going to college, he enlisted in the Air Force and served for eight years.

While in the Air Force, he also worked as part time as a firefighter. After discharging from the Air Force, he committed as a full-time shift fire fighter for Rochester.

He was a shift firefighter until being promoted to lieutenant in 2012, then promoted again to captain at the beginning of 2016, and finally promoted to deputy chief at the end of 2016, which is the position he currently serves.

He has always been loyal to his job and spends many extra hours committing himself to his firefighters, making sure they are well informed and safe on the job.

Riley says that her father has always put others before himself.

While he currently works a 9-5 salary position, most of the time, he will work 12 hours and put a lot of extra time (which he is not being paid for) into his job and his fire department. He currently does a lot more for the fire department than his position requires him to do.

He picks up all the slack and he puts in more than 100% of his effort into his fire department and fire fighters to make sure they are safe as well as the citizens of Rochester and other surrounding cities and counties.

Riley says her dad is the reason she has committed herself to nursing school as growing up with a figure like him in her life has taught her that the most important thing is helping others.
