Is Seed a Restaurant Opening in Portland Where the Popular 555 Once Was?
I got excited to see that something was going into the space that was the bar for the insanely popular 555 restaurant.
555 (the best lobster risotto I've ever eaten) closed as the pandemic set in. It was shocking and sad and unfortunately just one of the many wonderful places that closed for good thanks to Covid. 555 was the address on Congress Street in Portland. I'm sorry if you never got a chance to eat there. It was one of my favorite spots.
A few years after 555 opened, the Point 5 Lounge opened next to it. It was basically a bar for the restaurant. It was a wonderful place to hang out and wait for your reservation or just pop in if you weren't lucky enough to get a reservation.
So it's not exactly taking the space of 555, but close enough.
Seed is at 553 Congress Street. But what the hell is Seed? A friend of mine was chatting with me about what restaurant this could be. I envisioned a vegetarian place where all the food served started as a seed! My friend said, that it would be a place that served bowls of birdseed and we laughed that the twist would be that the server would regurgitate it into your mouth.
Yes. My friend is weird.
But a little digging found that the logo for Seed only matched one place online. And that was of a (drum roll please)
A MARIJUANA DISPENSARY IN BOSTON
Seriously? They won't have lobster risotto! There are a lot of recreational cannabis places in Maine now, but none in the downtown Portland area. I can't tell when it's opening, but it looks like it could be soon. So, if you love pot and wanted something in the downtown Portland area, you're in luck!
