Even though I believe we all try to be kind to each other, it feels like some common courtesies have disappeared over the last few years.

We no longer go out of our way to look out for each other.  Instead, we put our priorities first.

This is especially true when it comes to how we behave at certain businesses.

Why do you do this at gas stations?

One of the things that really annoys me is when people leave their vehicles unattended at gas pumps so they can go inside the store to buy other items.

Yes, if you are paying with cash, you obviously have to enter the store to pre-pay at the pump you plan to use.  That’s not the issue.

It is the people who use a card to pay for their fuel, pump their fuel, and then go inside the store to buy a coffee, lottery tickets, a bag of chips, or whatever.

You are holding up the line and preventing people who are waiting behind you from getting their gas.

Depending on who the person waiting behind you is, your decision could have serious consequences.  While it may tick me off, my being delayed is not a big deal.  I am never going anywhere important.  However, you could be delaying a first responder or medical professional from getting where they need to go.

So next time, please take a few extra seconds to park in one of the parking spots before going into the store.

Of course, this only applies to the gas stations where there are only a few lanes and each lane has two or three pumps in a row.  If you are at one of the gas stations where each pump has its own lane, it doesn’t really matter.  Other customers can easily choose a different lane.

I know that you're going to get ticked off and comment on social media that I should mind my own business and stop complaining.  I just think that doing this can help so many people in the long run.
