One of the go-to items I almost always pick up when restocking my snack cupboard at the Auburn Walmart are Quaker Oats products. Many of us have turned to this brand as part of our New Year resolutions, aiming for weight loss and introducing a healthier habit of oats and grains.

However, it's time to stop, collaborate, and listen, and to also reconsider as there's been a nationwide recall on these products!

So the next time you're at your favorite Maine grocery store, do not grab these snacks!

According to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, the recall was announced on December 15, 2023, citing salmonella contamination.

According to The Hill, in 2024, they extended the recall to include more than 100 more products, including granola cereals, bars, Cap'N Crunch cereals, and snack boxes.

What is Salmonella?

Salmonella can be extremely dangerous, especially for certain at-risk groups!

The CDC says salmonella bacteria causes around 1.3 million illnesses yearly. These cases result in about 420 deaths. Serious cases usually those with weaker immune systems, like kids or seniors.

According to the Mayo Clinic, symptoms like diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps can appear up to six days after eating contaminated food. Severe symptoms like dehydration or high fever need immediate medical attention

This isn't something you want to catch, so it's best to avoid buying Quaker products next time you are at Walmart until the company releases a statement confirming it's safe to do so.
