Devastating Overnight Fire at Augusta, Maine Senator Inn Destroys Building, Knocks Out Power
According to a Maine Department of Public Safety press release, the Augusta Fire Department responded to a fire at the Senator Inn in Augusta, Maine, early Friday morning, April 19.
The Kennebec Journal reported that someone who was passing by saw one of the buildings engulfed in flames and called the fire in.
The blaze was reported at 12:29 a.m. Friday, the newspaper noted.
Local photographer, Dave Dostie, captured heart-wrenching photos of the apparent aftermath early this morning.
Before reports came in, based on the photos, it appeared as though the fire was isolated to one of the hotel's outbuildings. That outbuilding is a single-level building comprising of dozens of hotel rooms.
The KJ later said 15 units in one of the hotel's outbuildings were destroyed in the blaze.
The Maine Department of Public Safety said that after an investigation, "it was determined that the fire originated in the attic over one of the units in the Governor’s Wing causing significant damage to the building." It was deemed accidental.
The press release noted that the Togus, Gardiner, Chelsea, Winthrop, Vassalboro, Hallowell, Sidney, and Manchester Fire Departments assisted the Augusta Fire Department.
Thankfully no one was injured in the early morning fire at the iconic Augusta location.
Senator Inn General Manager Kaitlyn Martin told the Kennebec Journal that they plan to rebuild but didn't have the estimated cost of damage yet.
