Eagle Grabs Lunch in the Backyard of Exeter, New Hampshire, Home
It's pretty amazing to watch an eagle enjoy lunch from the deck of your home in Exeter, New Hampshire.
Susan Drinker sees a lot of gorgeous wildlife right from the deck of her home. She is often snapping pictures of her favorite bird, the heron.
It's actually a heron that Susan was watching and snapping pictures of when the bird was kicked out. This is a popular lunch spot for birds, as they grab eels from the water. That's what Mr. Eagle had for lunch, and he wanted no company while he enjoyed it.
That is a lamprey eel that this gorgeous eagle grabbed out of the Squamscott River. The Squascott starts at the Exeter River (the freshwater part), and is the tidally-influenced segment.
WARNING: This eagle's lunch is a tiny bit graphic.
The eagle uses his talons to tear up his lunch into bite-size pieces. Nature isn't always pretty, but it is always fascinating.
Every time I drive through New Hampshire on my way to North Conway or the White Mountain region, I always see eagles. There's lots of good eating for eagles. The last time I was on Route 302 recently in Center Conway, an eagle swooped down and grabbed some road kill RIGHT OFF THE ROAD in front of me and flew off, holding the tiny rodent in his left talon. It was incredible, and so scary that he swooped into traffic!
Thanks for sharing, Susan. Hopefully, the herons came back to eat in peace.
