What sounds like it could be a joke, is actually a larger issue in Manchester, New Hampshire over a man who makes homemade pickles.

Dill-Liberations are Heating Up New Hampshire

According to WMUR, there is a case of a man who received a cease and desist from the City of Manchester who told him that he had to stop giving away his homemade pickles.  He didn't even charge any money for the homemade creations.

Dan the Pickle Man, as he's known by me and me alone, is now the poster person for home cooks everywhere in the City of Manchester.  His case is now being discussed by legislators in the State House.

Laws Needed to Protect the Pickle

Senator Dan Innis from Bedford said, according to WMUR, that he is going to file legislation to prevent municipalities from making their own laws and standards that are above and beyond state law. Here's the quote from the article:

Let's help our small businesses, give them some more freedom, release some of the shackles.

News 9, WMUR did their own investigation and discovered 33 cease and desist letters issued by the Manchester Health Department over the past few years specifically targeted at unlicensed food businesses.

The Department of Health Can Shut You Down

Back in the day, I remember doing an event in Nashua and I was passing out pieces of this huge cake.  I was not wearing gloves, but my hands were squeaky clean!

It didn't matter to the Health Inspector guy who came by and shut my booth of sweet sugar down!  He wasn't playin' either.  My sense of humor was not appreciated at the time, as I recall.
