"The fastest known speeding ticket was issued in May 2003 in Texas," according to a Weiss and Associates, PC article. "The driver was operating a Koenigseggs CCR, a super sports car made in Sweden, and was allegedly going 242 mph (389 km/hr) in a 75 mph zone. The driver was arrested and his sport car was towed."

Can you imagine seeing a car going 242 mph? That is about three times as fast as most people will drive in their entire life.

But I cannot picture anyone hitting 242 mph in Maine or New Hampshire. Don't get me wrong, we have some pretty long and secluded roads, but I bet parts of Texas have more.

So what is the record speeding ticket in Maine and New Hampshire?

Prepare yourself...

"In 2016, a Maine State Police officer stopped a Dodge Neon going 146 mph in a 70 mph zone on Interstate 95 close to Pittsfield," according to a WinIt article. "The 18-year-old driver was arrested and charged with criminal speeding and failure to provide proof of insurance and inspection."

Now I drove fast in my teen years, like most of us did. But 146 mph as an 18-year-old is scary, both for the driver and their parents.

As for New Hampshire, the speed was pretty much the same.

"In July 2019, Eric Joseph was caught reaching a speed of 142 mph on Interstate 95, well over the posted speed limit of 65 mph," according to WinIt. "Joseph told the state trooper that he was simply driving home. He was charged with reckless driving, which is not a criminal offense in New Hampshire but still entails a temporary license suspension."

As papa-Sherwood says, "speed kills." Be safe out there.
