Here in New Hampshire, we see hiking year 'round and sometimes, even the most experienced hikers get themselves into trouble out on the trail.  It is Mother Nature, after all, she calls the shots.

Without a "Hike Safe" card, your rescue could cost you a lot of money.

The State of New Hampshire's Fish and Game Department is selling Hike Safe Cards for $25 per person or $35 for a family.  You will be covered for the year, until December 31.

Your NH Hike Safe Card May Not Cover All Costs

If you need help on the trail, even if it's your fault, you won't have to repay the rescue costs.  It's important to note that you may still be liable for other costs associated with your rescue as outlined in this NHRSA.

The cost of the card will directly go to the NH Fish and Game Department for rescue efforts.

Will You Need to Be Rescued on New Hampshire Trails?

Believe me, getting this card is going to be worth its weight in gold if you need to call for help.  I consider myself a hiker, especially if I am on any trail in New Hampshire.  I grew up here, I know these woods as Robert Frost kind of said once.  But, a couple of years ago, I was on a trail in the White Mountains that I had been on a dozen times.  I thought I would take a different way OUT and I got L.O.S.T, lost. I was afraid that I might have to stay there all night, as it was getting dark.

I managed to get out on my own, but if I had that card, I would have called someone to avoid the stress of that day/night.  Better safe than sorry.

See you on the Trails!
