Sunday night was a pretty special night for The Ultimate Metallica Showas we welcomed The Ripper himself, Mr. Kirk Hammett, to the CYY airwaves.

As part of the 2022 edition of Record Store Day (April 23), Hammett released his first-ever solo release, the four-track instrumental EP Portals. Though it is wildly different than anything he's done with Metallica, it's still Hammett on the six-string, and so you know it features some amazing guitar work.

So of course, we played a couple of tracks from Portals on the show, but we also were lucky enough to have Hammett join us to share some pretty amazing behind-the-scenes tidbits about his solo debut. I have to give a huge nod to my dear friend Matt Wardlaw over at Ultimate Classic Rock who first chatted with Hammett and gave us the scoop; make sure to read his interview, "How Kirk Hammett Revisited His Shredder Roots.".

If you missed the show, don't worry, we have you covered with the full playlist below—and we'll even share the audio clips from Hammett.
