According to the Maine CDC's Monday update, the cumulative number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Maine is now at 47,199 an increase of 174 since Sunday. 36,644 of those cases are confirmed while 10,555 are deemed probable.

There was one new death reported of individuals with COVID-19 increasing the total number of deaths at 725. 1,601 patients have had to be hospitalized at some point. 78 are currently hospitalized with 23 in intensive care and 9 on a ventilator.

512,284 doses have been administered to Mainers, with 323,049 having had one dose and 189,235 having had both doses. 24.03% of the population have received the first dose and 14.08% have received both.

Maine Health made a big announcement that beginning on Wednesday they will start to ease restrictions on non-COVID patient visitation. This means that during visiting hours of 3 pm to 6 pm one person may enter the hospital for visitation with their hospitalized loved one with additional allowances possible for those on palliative care and end-of-life patients.

Bangor Daily News reported that Maine has fared quite well through the pandemic compared to nearly all of the rest of the country noting that 3/2,000 Americans alive at the start of the pandemic have passed away from COVID-19, in Maine the number is 1/2,000. The favorable statistic is likely due to Maine being mostly rural with low population density.

If you have symptoms of the coronavirus, including a runny nose, sore throat, dry cough, fever and in severe cases, difficulty breathing, the Maine CDC says you should call your doctor before going in so that they can prepare for your arrival.
