Maine DOT Says No Thanks To PETA’s Planned Lobster Memorial
One of the more ridiculous stories that hit the newswire yesterday was PETA's request to have a memorial erected in Brunswick for the live lobsters that died in a car accident earlier in the week. After some careful consideration, the Maine Department of Transportation rejected the idea.
PETA's request generated headlines across the state, and even a few national headlines as well. Ultimately, that's all the organization could have asked for. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have often staged odd protests or requests hoping to turn people away from eating animals, and this is just another example.
Sorry lobster lovers, we'll just have to remember the lives that were lost that fateful day in Brunswick a different way. Perhaps, with a bib and some warm butter.
