
Forecast Models Suggest Major Warm Up For Maine Next Week
It's been a very long winter for people throughout Maine and all of New England for multiple reasons.
For some, it's been some frustrating snow storms. For most, it's been a constant stream of cold that just hasn't left the region for nearly 5 straight months.
That cold has mostly been because of bitter arctic air staying put above all of New England. That arctic air has kept warmer southern air from moving into Maine, even for just a few short days.
That looks like it's about to change and it couldn't come sooner for those have are completely over winter.
Forecast Models Predicting Significant Warm Up For Maine Next Week
Several of the most widely used forecast models are all coming together to predict about the same thing.
Late next week, warm air is going to take over most of the United States and will finally push that unforgiving arctic air out of Maine and New England for at least a few days.
Southern Maine is likely to see 4 or 5 straight days of temperatures in the 50's. It's possibly those could reach the 60's if enough cool air moves out.
The rest of Maine should see upper 40's and low-to-mid 50's for the same stretch.
There Could Be Significant Snow Melt in Maine Next Week
While the warmer temperatures will be welcomed with open arms across Maine, there's also the potential for danger.
If the forecast models hold and Maine sees a significant warm up for several consecutive days, it will cause a massive amount of snow melt.
The snow pack in Maine us substantial currently and a large snow melt event could cause flooding in rivers and streams across the state.
