After growing up in New Hampshire and living in Maine for the last 25 years, you’d think I would have at least heard of most of the towns in both states. Until recently, there were only three towns that I knew of that were identical in both states. Turns out there are actually seven.

Milton

Milton, ME is an unorganzied township, according to Wikipedia. Population? About 150. So basically, blink and you'll miss it.
Milton, NH is the bigger sibling. With lakes, ponds, and outdoor fun. It's located near the Maine border along Rt. 125 and the Salmon Falls River.

Durham

Durham, ME keeps things low-key. It's rural, real estate is hard to come by, and the town just feels... content.
Durham, NH couldn't be more different. This town brings the energy—it's home to the University of New Hampshire, which means student life, events, and all the noise and fun that come with it.

Littleton

Littleton, ME is tucked way up north in "the county" with only around 1,000 residents. Quiet, peaceful, and built for those who prefer snowmobiles over traffic jams.

Littleton, NH is that quintessential small town with a historic Main Street. Shops, cafes, and outdoor adventure spots are all included. It's located in Northern NH and not far from the Canadian border.

Gorham, ME is a college town vibe all the way, thanks to the University of Southern Maine. It's got the energy of students, plenty of green space, and is only a short drive from Portland.
Gorham, NH, on the other hand, is more about mountain views and weekend getaways. It's located nearby to Wildcat and Sunday River Ski Resorts as well as Mt. Washington.

Newfield / Newfields

Newfield, ME is a charming rural town near the New Hampshire border, known for historic sites like Willowbrook and peaceful back roads.
Newfields, NH is a tiny town with a close-knit community and those perfect-for-a-bike-ride country roads. Close enough in name, and close enough in vibe.

Lebanon

Lebanon, ME = rural charm, farmland, and that “let’s go off-grid for the weekend” energy.
Lebanon, NH = more of a hybrid town with both rural and suburban feels and easy access to the Connecticut River and White Mountains. Probably most known as the home for the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

Madison

Madison, ME is rooted in tradition, agriculture, and the paper industry. Think farmers' markets, small festivals, and neighbors who wave at each other. It's located in Somerset County, nextdoor to Skowhegan.
Madison, NH is all about lakes, hiking trails, and its proximity to North Conway’s restaurants and shops. It's the quieter sibling that still knows how to have a good time.
