For many people born in Maine, there's only other place they dream of calling home. There's just something about the Pine Tree State that makes you believe there's no where else you'd rather be.

Florida is The Top State Maine Residents Are Moving To Consistently

Unsurprisingly, about 20% of the people who moved out of the state of Maine during the last census taken decided to move to Florida.

There are two reasons that top the list as to why 1-in-5 Maine residents decided to leave Vacationland for the Sunshine State.

The first reason is retirement. Florida still remains one of the top choices amongst retirees to live.

The second is the weather. Maine's winter can feel like it lasts an eternity and Florida's abbreviated winter season can feel like a fever dream for many who move there.

Massachusetts Ranked Second Amongst States Maine People Are Moving To

While retirement and escaping long winters are a draw to Florida, 13% of people who moved out of Maine chose to move to Massachusetts.

The top reasons including higher education as well as better job and income opportunities. The winters can still be long in Massachusetts.
