With all the social media, Zoom calls, emails, texting and digital forms of communication, it wouldn't be a complete surprise for someone to wonder, "Why do we still have U.S. Mail?"

According to a Forbes article, the short answer includes nostalgia, politics, and logistics.

Oh, and here's a wild fact Forbes includes in their story: the U.S. Postal Service loses a whopping $3 billion per year. That's a billion with a "B."

Regardless, even with the negatives surrounding U.S. Mail, it doesn't seem like it's going away any time soon. And that means you can still get stamps for all your outgoing mail.

And if you really care about what's on that stamp, then a recent press release might spark some excitement.

Turns out, a new batch of Forever Stamps is getting released, and one of the designs is featuring New Hampshire children's book author Tomie dePaola.

"Art director Derry Noyes designed the stamp with Tomie dePaola’s original art," according to the press release.

Tomie dePaola's most recognizable work is probably that of "Strega Nona," published in 1975, featuring a story of a magic pasta pot gone awry.

According to his website, dePaola has written over 270 books and over 25 million copies of his works have been sold.

Sadly, the famous author, who lived in New Hampshire working on a 200-year-old barn, per the website bio, died in 2020.

And now, in addition to his books, his legacy will live on in this new featured stamp traveling all over with everyone's mail. And it can be yours if you want it.

Will you be getting this New Englander's special stamp for your mail? Is there another famous New Englander you'd want to see on a stamp?
