According to Eater Maine, the space that once housed Sangillo's in the Old Port will soon be the spot for yet another new Old Port dive, Tomaso's Canteen. The owner of the new venture, Samuel Minervino, also happens to own the very popular Forest Avenue restaurant Samuel's Bar and Grill.

Minervino told Eater Maine that the building that formerly housed Sangillo's "needed to be completely gutted, including the electrical and plumbing. It was basically a cinder block shell a couple months ago." That has caused some delays in the opening of Tomaso's, which should open their doors sometime in November. Tomaso's appears that it will share one thing in common with Samuel's, a terrific pub menu. Samuel's has become a word of mouth monster for their terrific food specials and creative brunch menu. Minervino admitted to Eater Maine that the menu for Tomaso's is "still a work in progress" but given Samuel's success, it would be hard to imagine the menu varying significantly.

Currently, Tomaso's doesn't have a website but they continue to update their Facebook page at Tomaso's Canteen.
