To say that the Old Port in Portland, Maine, has changed a lot over the last 20 years would be an understatement.

Along Fore, Commercial and Wharf streets, the Old Port has drastically changed with many dive bars, dance clubs and mom and pop restaurants replaced with more upscale options.

It's a natural evolution for a city that has been catering more towards tourism that expanding its own population year over year.

Located right next to Via Vecchia, the Bar of Chocolate has been a "if you know, you know" kind of place in Portland's Old Port for more than two decades.

According to Portland Food Map, the Bar of Chocolate plans to keep going but with a different owner.

The Bar of Chocolate has been sold to a former employee, James Mack. The Bar of Chocolate will temporarily close as the transition of the sale is completed.

The Bar of Chocolate had been under the same ownership for 21 years before the sale.

For fans of espresso martinis and delectable cake, fear not, the Bar of Chocolate hopes to reopen very quickly.

What will be interesting to see is if new ownership brings new items to the chill bar. For most of its 21 years, the Bar of Chocolate hasn't changed much. And that's not a bad thing.

The Bar of Chocolate has remained a dessert dive bar featuring sweet martinis and an even sweeter selection of treats.
