Primus, Incubus and Buckethead Played Lewiston, Maine, 25 Years Ago
It was called the Central Maine Civic Center at the time and would later be renamed to The Colisee. The year was 1999 and the live music was flowing at a steady pace throughout the state of Maine.
On November 12, fans all packed in for an entertaining night of awesomeness, loudness, madness and of course weirdness, Primus was the headlining band after all, but they weren’t the only band bringing all of the energy... and weirdness.
The infamous KFC Bucket wearing guitar shredder warmed up the stage. Yes, of course talking about the infamous Buckethead himself.
Also on tap for the evening was a little known band at the time, Incubus, who had just released their first hit single “Pardon Me” and their breakthrough album “Make Yourself” just a couple of weeks before the show. It was interesting to see the follow up hit songs from the album (“Stellar” and “Drive”) didn’t even make the setlist that night.
The pairing of Primus, Incubus and Buckethead might seem unconventional on paper—Primus with their surreal, funky rock, Incubus’ more alt-rock vibe and Buckethead with his bizarre on stage appearance—but somehow, it all just worked. Each band brings its unique sound and style.
Primus hit the stage to a roar of excitement, diving right into their set and setting off a wave of energy through the crowd. The vibe was electric. The crowd was charged, amped for every song. Les, as always, brought his sharp wit and humor, riffing off crowd antics, which only made the audience even more hyped.
