Sears in Brunswick Is Closing in April
Gone are the days of waiting by the mailbox for the Sears catalog and now going are the days of Sears brick and mortar shopping.
In 2019, Maine said good-bye to K-Mart after their parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
The same parent company also owns Sears and they recently announced they will be closing the location at Cook's Corner at 8 Gurnet Road, according to WGME.
Brunswick as a city has been experiencing the pains of change since Naval Air Station Brunswick closed. While there has been growth and new businesses at the old NAS, other businesses have felt the sting over the years. That, combined with the growing popularity of online shopping weighed heavily on the retail giant.
The only other Maine Sears location is in South Portland. There are however Sears Hometown (where just appliances and tools are sold) locations in Caribou, Farmington and Fort Kent.
There is no word on any of those other Maine locations closing at this time.
WGME reports that the store will close by mid-April and their liquidation sale starts this week.
