Sick Puppies Bassist Emma Anzai Plays ‘Would You Rather?’
In our latest game of ‘Would You Rather?,’ we had the opportunity to chat with Emma Anzai of Sick Puppies. She shares her love of playing festivals, touring the world and getting to connect with the fans. Also, find out which legendary musician she’d like to have lunch with and much more. Check out our game of ‘Would You Rather?’ with bassist Emma Anzai of Sick Puppies below:
Would you rather be late for a show or mess up onstage?
Mess up onstage probably. Being late for a show, the anxiety of that can take you out of the show anyway but messing up onstage, I’ve done a few times so I can try to figure out how to get out of that mind set.
Would you rather play big festivals or small club shows forever?
Definitely big festivals, there’s an energy about festivals that you can’t replicate outside of it.
Would you rather be on tour or in the studio?
On tour because you get to see the country and the world, you get to see and meet the people who are actually listening to your music. You get to connect with them and hear feedback and what favorite part they have or lyrics and that’s where it’s at. The studio is a different mind frame all together and you’re in a bubble. You don’t know if someone’s going to like it, you think you like it sometimes, you listen back and you’re like, “That’s awful,” and it’s a whole different process.
Would you rather tour with a band you don't respect or a band that doesn't respect you?
Probably tour with a band that didn’t respect us because then we would have something to prove.
Would you rather hit the road in a nice new shiny tour bus that smells bad or an older RV that doesn’t have a stench?
I’d go with the first one, the shiny new bus with the stench and try my very hardest to rid it of the stench. [Laughs] That’s because it’s closer to what actually happens when you get a tour bus anyway.
Would you rather have an accordion for legs or drumsticks for hands?
Drumsticks for hands because playing drums is fun anyways but accordion for legs that could be a problem.
Would you rather have lunch with a music icon who has passed away or a music icon who is currently alive? Who would it be with?
Oh it would have to be one that has passed on because someone who’s still alive there could always be a chance, but someone who has passed on there’s no chance of that happening. Who would it be? I think Elvis because he was the King and what better way to spend lunch time than with Elvis.
Our thanks to Emma Anzai of Sick Puppies for playing ‘Would You Rather?’ Catch the band on tour at these stops and order the band's new 'Fury' album here.
