Six Flags New England To Host First Ever Sensory Friendly Day
Anyone who knows an individual with sensory sensitivities knows how difficult it can be to have a traditional outing.
In a very basic nutshell, individuals with sensory sensitivities can easily get overstimulated and overwhelmed by bright or flashing lights, crowds, and loud noises.
Know what has a lot of bright flashing lights, crowds, and loud noises?
Amusement parks.
For those of us who don't have these struggles, it's very easy to take for granted the experience of going to an amusement park. It can be heartbreaking for parents who wish their child could experience the fun of an amusement park like other kids. It can be isolating for an adult who wishes they could join their friends on an outing.
Six Flags New England is offering a special day this summer catered to those who have these sensitivities so they can finally have an amusement park experience.
Sensory Friendly Day is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16th from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm. The park will play nature sounds on their sound system to help drown out loud unavoidable park noises and they won't have any characters roaming the midways. They will have special programs during that time such as a quiet zone, a touch and play area with sensory-friendly items, a reading and snuggle area, and more.
The park encourages guests to wear blue to show support for autism awareness. In addition to the fun, there will also be trained professionals to assist guests within the autism community
