Smashing Pumpkins Bringing Tour to Maine This Summer
One of the biggest stadium tours this summer features two powerhouse acts from the alt-rock world. That would be Green Day and the Smashing Pumpkins. Both bands will be traveling from coast to coast, playing in some of the most iconic baseball stadiums in the country.
For a band like the Smashing Pumpkins, those stadium dates – along with the travel and stage set-up at this non-traditional venues – give the band a chance to peel off that major tour and do a few headlining shows themselves. One of those summer dates happens to be right here in Maine.
Waterfront Concerts has announced the Smashing Pumpkins live at the Maine Savings Amphitheater on Sunday, August 4. Canadian rockers the Glorious Sons will serve as support for this date.
The Smashing Pumpkins last visit to Maine happened more than 11 years ago at the State Theatre in Portland as part of their 'Oceania' tour. That was a somewhat puzzling time for band, as most of the original lineup wasn't featured, and the setlist showed it.
Many remember the Smashing Pumpkins first performance in Portland back in 1996. That tour featured Garbage and saw the Pumpkins crush the Cumberland County Civic Center with a 16-song setlist that featured most of their biggest hits at the time.
