
Once Popular Burger Chain Permanently Closes All Maine Locations
While many people have been focused on some large national retail chains like Kohl's, JC Penney and Macy's closing down some of their signature stores, there's another type of chain that also seems to be struggling nationwide.
That would be the burger chain. Red Robin was the first to make national news, announcing they would be closing nearly 100 restaurants nationwide due to poor financial performance.
There are other small burger chains that are also struggling to stay afloat. And one of them just closed all three of their restaurants in Maine.
Elevation Burger Closes Restaurants in Portland, Augusta and South Portland, Maine
When Elevation Burger was created as a company in 2005, the premise behind the burger chain was to produce quality, organic food in the same way that other chains could not.
The idea quickly resonated and Elevation Burger's popularity took off. According to MaineBiz, Elevation Burger opened their first location in South Portland, Maine, in 2012. Other locations followed in Portland's Old Port as well as Augusta.
Now, they're all permanently closed.
Elevation Burger Has Been Struggling Financially For Years
While several of their locations continue to draw in enthusiastic customers, financial problems had been brewing for Elevation Burger for the last several years. In 2019, the company was sold for just $10 million to FAT Brands. A restructuring of Elevation Burger followed.
Since that restructuring, Elevation Burger locations across the country and quietly and quickly been exiting markets. That exit has officially happened in Maine.
