The State Theatre was packed last night for a sold out show featuring alternative rock legends The Pixies. By all accounts, the show was amazing, filled with memorable moments for a red hot audience. But it was the finale of the show that may be what people talk about for years to come.

According to the Portland Press Herald, during the band's final song called "Into the White", the fog machines the band was using to add stage effects to their show triggered the smoke alarms at the State Theatre. The band had been using the fog machines throughout their performance, but the encore was the final straw.

State Theatre personnel noticed the fire alarms while many fans of the band were strictly focused on the stage. The staff began directing people safely to fire exits rather than a traditional exodus through the main entrance to the theatre. Concert go-ers proclaimed that they never felt a sense of panic or even realized there was potential danger due to the smoke alarms.
