Walgreens Permanently Closing Saco, Maine, Location
Walgreens made headlines a couple of years ago by announcing the massive pharmacy chain would close more than 1,200 locations nationwide as a plan to reduce underperformance.
Since then, Walgreens has closed locations, including some in Maine. But the chain has not been going at the pace originally planned.
Instead, Walgreens mildly flipped their strategy of eliminating all underperforming stores to simply downsizing their operations to focus on 'store optimization'.
But as 2027 approaches, Walgreens is once again prepared to close several stores across the country to reach their new goal, including their location in Saco, Maine.
Walgreens in Saco, Maine, to Close Permanently This November
According to WGME, the Walgreens location at 461 Main Street in Saco, Maine, will close permanently on November 10.

The Walgreens website for that location urges customers to find another location to fill their prescriptions before the official closing date.
Walgreens closure in Saco, Maine, will add to a growing worry about medication availability in places throughout the state. The less pharmacies, the more challenging it becomes for seniors to obtain the medication they desperately need.
More Walgreens Locations in Maine Could Be At Risk of Closing
For those that regularly use Walgreens to fill prescriptions, it has been a challenge with inconsistent hours and closures at many locations across Maine recently.

Walgreens is severely understaffed at many key locations across Portland, Westbrook and beyond leading to customer frustration over inconsistent hours and sudden pharmacy closures.
The Saco, Maine, location may only be the first of a handful of Walgreens in the state to close over the next year or so.
