No Portland tree lighting ceremony this year? No Problem! Our friends at Portland Downtown have put up the Portland Holiday Tree TREE CAM. Now you can check on the beautiful 40-foot fir, anytime you want! Feeling a bit down? Turn on the TREE CAM. Don't have your tree up yet? Crank up the TREE CAM. Just want to see some of the always-interesting things going on in Monument Square? Yup...TREE CAM!

From Jeff Tarling, the City of Portland arborist:

“On November 2nd, Portland witnessed a high wind event with the passing of a cold front that we all might remember,” said Tarling. “Forestry crews responded to a down tree and as part of the clean-up later in the week, Forestry Supervisor Lucas Lermond noticed a beautiful Balsam Fir growing really close to a nearby home. This is often a signal that a once small tree has outgrown its space. We left our contact information and, to our surprise and delight, the property owner responded that they would like to donate the tree!”

The Portland Tree is a 40 foot Balsam Fir, and was donated by Hilary Carr Shorey and James Shorey. Their beautiful tree made its way from North Deering today. It will take a few days to put the lights and decorations on and that will be fun to watch on TREE CAM.

We hope the TREE CAM gets you through. I know that in 2021 that we will all be able to crowd and sing together on Monument Square for what will be the most meaningful tree lighting celebration Portland has ever seen! Here's to better things in the new year.
