A Whoopie Pie in Maine is Going Viral For All The Wrong Reasons

When people think about coming to Maine for its signature food items, there's a few items that immediately top the list. Obviously, the lobster roll gets all the love but a lot of people are fascinated by whoopie pies and the variety of the flavors that are offered in the Pine Tree State.

There's been plenty of creative souls over the years that have tried to the simple dessert and make it into something that would make an award-winning pastry chef blush.

But not every flavor is a guaranteed winner. And thanks to a post on Reddit, one whoopie pie flavor is already being deemed 'the worst idea anyone has ever had'.

A shopper in Maine recently visited a Shaw's bakery where they stumbled across an oddly labeled whoopie pie. The label said "cheese". The poster proclaimed that they had lived in Maine all their life and had never come across a cheese-flavored whoopie pie.

As many quickly deduced, it's highly likely that the Shaw's bakery team simple filled their whoopie pies that day with cream cheese frosting. But placing a label that says cheese and features various different snapshots of cheese might have been a mistake. Some of the comments included:

I'm nauseous

 

Every day we stray further away from god…

 

This is the final straw. I'm moving to Canada.

 

If that's not cream cheese, you need to contact the authorities.

All of those opinions are valid. But what if Shaw's just has a mad scientist in the bakery and they've discovered the greatest flavor combination ever. Whipped cheese and chocolate. What could go wrong?
