The arrival of Bon-Ton was much anticipated when it announced a couple years back but for whatever reason, what Bon-Ton was selling just never resonated with Maine shoppers. Because of that, 55 workers will now be out of a job.

According to WGME, Bon-Ton plans to close their South Portland location in the Maine Mall by the end of August. The employees who will be left unemployed will get severance pay. The closing of Bon-Ton is another troublesome sign for large retailers nationwide, but particularly here in the state of Maine.

The Maine Mall currently has not identified a store to replace the large retailer.
