Nearly one year ago, residents of the Woodfords Corner neighborhood in Portland, Maine, as well as regular commuters along Forest Avenue were shocked to find that their Dunkin' location had closed.

The Dunkin' at Woodfords Corner had been in operation for more than 50 years. The closure was based on a variety of factors including staffing shortages and traffic changes that had made it more challenging to get in and out of that location.

Initially, people wondered if another coffee shop (or marijuana dispensary) would take over the prime location.

As it turns out, it's neither of those things.

LoanMax Takes Over Former Dunkin' Location in Portland, Maine

Rather than another coffee or fast food chain, a different kind of chain has opened their first location in Portland, Maine.

That would be LoanMax, which specializes in cash loans on car titles. The rather specific business model has continued to grow throughout New England.

LoanMax currently operates several locations in New Hampshire. There's likely more expansion through Maine coming in the not-too-distant future.

Woodfords Corner continues to be a destination neighborhood for foodies in Portland, Maine. The area is home to some great restaurants including Bird and Co, Woodford F&B as well as Maiz Colombian Street Food.

Many residents of the neighborhood almost expected that another trendy restaurant or startup bakery would take over the former Dunkin' location. That wasn't in the cards.

LoanMax is currently open at 544 Deering Avenue Monday through Saturday.
