New England City Has Highest Weed Consumption Per Capita In America

Coming out from the pandemic, many businesses found themselves going up in smoke. But one industry throughout America was thriving (even if its illegal on a national level).

That would be the marijuana industry. In Maine, it's been a massive money maker. Both recreational and medical marijuana shops have opened throughout the state, with great success.

With all those transactions being accounted for and money exchanging hands, Insider Monkey put together a study to determine which 35 cities across America are consuming weed the most per capita. And the results are rather surprising.

New Britain, Connecticut, topped the list as the city with the highest weed consumption per capita in all of America. In fact, they crushed the competition. Connecticut passed legislation to legalize marijuana for recreational use in 2021, and sales (along with consumption) took off like a rocket.

But New Britain wasn't the only city in New England among the largest weed consumption cities per capita in America.

Manchester, New Hampshire, rolled in third on the list of cities with the highest weed consumption rate per capita in America. It's a bit of a stunning finding considering New Hampshire remains the only state in New England that hasn't legalized marijuana for recreational use.

One last surprise from Insider Monkey's results was the exclusion of Maine's largest city. If you've traveled through Portland, Maine, you know there are a lot of recreational marijuana shops in the city. But Portland did not make the list as one of the top 35 weed consumption per capita cities in America. Call it an upset.
