One of the biggest decisions of your life is college.  Should you go to college or not?  If you go, where will you get the most out of your money without accumulating hundreds of thousands of dollars in loans?

So many questions need to be answered before you or your child embarks on a college journey.

One thing that makes it easier is the US News & World Report College Rankings, which is released annually in September, just in time for high school seniors to debate on where to apply for higher education.

Of course, New England touts four of the top ten best national universities in America.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA, ranks #2 (only to Princeton University), while Harvard University, also in Cambridge, MA, ranks #3.  Yale University in New Haven, CT, ranks #5, and Brown University in Providence, RI, ranks #9.

National universities aren't the only places where New England ranked near the top.  In fact, with the best liberal arts colleges in America, New England has four out of the top nine colleges in America.

Ranking #1 and # 2 are Williams College in Williamstown, MA, and Amherst College in Amherst, MA.  #4 is Wellesley College in Wellesley, MA, and the #9th ranked liberal arts college is Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME.

Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA, ranks #10 for best nursing programs, while Massachusetts Institute of Technology was #1 for computer science and #2 for their business program.

Harvard University and MIT ranked #1 and #2 for best economic programs.  New England's Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT, ranked #3 in the nation for study abroad programs.

Needless to say, New England is home to many iconic and excellent higher education institutions, so no need to stray too far from home (unless you want to, of course).

Happy college hunting.
