You clicked this article because “planetarium laser rock show” sounds badass, am I right?

They had me at “planetarium” but sold me at “laser rock”.

Southworth Planetarium

Before we get rockin’ and rollin’ on the show deets, let me tell you about the venue. I’ve lived in Maine practically my entire life and this is the first I’m hearing about the University of Southern Maine having a planetarium. My mom’s convinced I went there on a field trip when I was little but I swear I had no idea this existed.

Well, apparently it’s a real thing and they offer shows, courses, lectures, all sorts of fun things. Maybe I didn’t know about it because it’s underground. Like, legit underground.

Public Shows

Of course, being a university, they use the space for lectures and educational purposes. But, they also open it up to the public for interactive shows and presentations. They’re offering shows every single day this month!

You can build your brain at educational ones like “Expedition Reef”, “Dinosaurs at Dusk”, and “Destination Solar System”, or ignite your senses at a LASER ROCK SHOW!!

Laser Rock Shows

Alright we’ve made it to the good stuff.

The planetarium will turn into a full laser dome at the end of the month with laser light action happening to the hard rock sounds of Led Zeppelin, Metallica, and Pink Floyd.

Here’s the schedule:

  • Laser Show: Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon"
    • Feb. 16 & 18 at 7 p.m.
  • Laser Led Zeppelin
    • Feb. 18 & 26 at 8 p.m.
  • Laser Show: Pink Floyd's "The Wall"
    • Feb. 19 & 25 at 7 p.m.
  • Laser Show: Laser Metallica
    • Feb. 19 & 25 at 8 p.m.

I kind of feel like Pokémon in this where I’m like, “I gotta catch ‘em all”. Why pick one when I can go to each show?! They’re only $7! Well, let’s call it $8.50 because it’s $1.50 for 3-D glasses which, to me, is a must.

You can reserve in advance or just pay at the door.

Will I see you there?
